NOTES: There was a fortuitous convergence of great viewing conditions and some decent activity on the Sun. I got the scope out and the Sun had fine prominences and an Earth-sized sunspot to view. Seeing was great from 8 AM to about noon, but even then did not deteriorate badly. Got to see the start of a small flare around noon but it faded in a few minutes. www.Spaceweather.com says the spot is having C-class flares, not sure if it was that big. The image is flipped to look like the scope view. North is roughly toward the top right, East in the sky is lower right. Sharpness went downhill by 1430. |
